The technology
Next Generation Ethernet connectivity and Cloud Telephony are two of the fastest growing technologies in 2014. 2015 will see even more SMEs upgrade their connectivity to take advantage of the savings available from cloud-hosted applications such as voice and CRM.
The demand
Research just published by TalkTalk Business suggests that 59% of small businesses are unhappy with their broadband provider, half feel they are not getting value for money and 20% are looking to make a change.
The opportunity
Further research conducted by Swan Independent Research highlighted an opportunity for IT support companies to upgrade their SME customers away from broadband and to more reliable dedicated Ethernet circuits. The price of Ethernet bandwidth has tumbled and in some areas companies can buy a 20Mb/s dedicated connection to the Internet for under £200 per month –that’s a 90% reduction in 18 months.
The trusted advisors
The report highlighted the fact that IT support companies are viewed as trusted advisors by their customers and will often follow their advice on connectivity. Ethernet leased lines are more reliable than broadband and savvy IT companies are starting to get into selling the connectivity and following in with hosted applications that they see more as their core business. This is giving them valuable recurring revenue and new opportunities to sell their core products.
